Summary
The book starts off by illustrating the scene where Barack used to live and the people that lived in the area. He describes his average daily life style, and how the days would go by so fast. He was about 21, and he lived in Manhattan, New York on Ninety fourth street. He would hang out with his roommate and have a good time with him. Until one day he got a phone call that was from his Aunt Jane from Nairobi who called to tell him that his father had died. Obama is not in shock, but he wonders about what had just happened to him. Obama then tells a flashback of his childhood when he used to live with his parents back in Kansas. He talks about how he grew up with racism around the nieghborhood he grew up in.

Reaction
To me, I felt that Barack had a complicated life beause of his racial identity. I understood why Barack Obama felt troubled as he grew up in Kansas as he heard racial comments and other remarks that he grew to dislike. I felt that he had understand what was going on with his parents really know why race was a big problem for him
